Long time resident of Squamish, Beatrice Koch passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family members. Bea was known for her pickles and jams, and nobody who visited went home without at least one (or two) jars of home canned goods from Bea's kitchen. Bea taught herself to play the piano and spent many hours tickling the ivories. She also taught herself oil painting and produced many lifelike pictures. Bea was meticulous in her appearance and her hair and makeup always had to be "just so." While Bea never learned to drive, she always enjoyed taking driving vacations with husband Karl, travelling many miles to visit friends and family. Bea loved to bake and no meal was ever complete without tea and dessert. Family was everything to Bea and she was a shoulder to cry on, always willing to help out family members at a moment's notice. Bea and Karl lived in the Spiral Court for many decades and every morning Bea would open the kitchen curtains, look at Mt. Garibaldi and proclaim the weather conditions! She loved living down by the back water, and would put out bread crumbs for the sparrows and nectar for the hummingbirds. She loved animals and enjoyed hand feeding a raccoon that she dubbed "Trixie." Her favorite story was feeding Trixie bread and jam. One day she ran out of jam and only had bread and Trixie didn't want it. Bea always found that amusing. Bea had one of the first hip replacement operations in Canada in the 1960s. At that time it was revolutionary and experimental but she was willing to have it done. Bea was the middle child of 11 children, born in Boseman, Manitoba. She is survived by her loving husband, Karl, children Joyce, Nancy, Karla, Rob, step daughter Dorothea, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters Isobel and Sheila, brothers Fred and Bert.
