Ian George Blackie

Blackie, Ian George - 58, of Debert, began the next leg of his journey, peacefully at home with his wife, on Monday February 16, 2015. Ian was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and boss. He was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Ian Blackie Construction Ltd. for over thirty years. Ian was a hunter and fisherman extraordinaire, travelling to Newfoundland and Cape Breton and Wallace Bay to hunt moose, deer, ducks; to Saskatchewan hunting snow geese; and to Alaska to fish, although he had to catch and release much to his chagrin. Ian loved his dogs, Emma and Sadie, and often took Emma with him in the truck. He was an avid golfer, who played whenever he had the time, and for charity events. Ian had a strength of character and a stubborn streak which served him well in life. His quick wit was well known by all with whom he shared in conversation. Ian is survived by loving wife of thirty seven years, Betty (Lockhart), and his children, Michelle (Tim) Rushton, Mandy (Wayne Higgins) Blackie, and George (Erin Densmore) Blackie. "Gramp" will be missed by Kurtlin Rushton, Joshua Blackie, Nicole and Austin Higgins, Cooper and Carson Blackie. Ian is also survived by his brother, David (Debbie) Blackie; his sisters, Darlene (Eldon) MacNeill, and Joanne Nolet; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ian was predeceased by his father and mother, George Blackie and Marjorie Blackie Stevens; his step father, Wilfrid Stevens, his sister, Nancy Alstrup, his brother in law, Ron Nolet, and his mother in law Lois Lockhart. No visitation by request. Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20 at 2 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Rev.Connie McNamara officiating. Donations in Ian's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, or any charity of your choice. Condolences may be made at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
