Alta Marie (MacLean) Nicholson

Born In: Florence
Born: May 23rd, 1938

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: February 17th, 2015

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, Alta Marie (MacLean) Nicholson, was called home to be with her loving Lord and Saviour, at age 76 years, on Tuesday Feb. 17, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Florence on May 23, 1938, Alta was the daughter of the late Norman and Louise (Childs) MacLean.
Over the years she worked as a young girl in Florence Co-op. While raising her family, she worked at Martin’s Market, Sobeys and Woolco, and upon retirement was with the Northside Homemakers, making many friends along the way.
Mom’s greatest loves were taking care of Gary, her children, grandchildren and trusting in her Lord and Saviour daily. She was a woman of strong faith. As a member of Grace Fellowship, she loved to gather with her church friends for Bible studies, and she enjoyed being with the children teaching Sunday school. If she was not in the kitchen cooking and baking, you would find her in the living room chair reading Gods’ word, or with a set of knitting needles. God graced our Dad with a beautiful life partner and us with a Mom forever in our hearts.
Our Mom leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Gary Nicholson; children, Archie (Suzanne), Noel (Clifford) Legatto, Kathy (Mark) MacLeod and Lorna Jane (Michael) MacNeil. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Steven, Garrett Nicholson, Jason, Matthew, Monique Legatto, Ryan (Grace), Christina, Kayla MacLeod and Noah and Kate MacNeil; brother, Gordon (Millie) MacLean, the many nieces and nephews she loved, along with her extended MacLean and Nicholson family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her by her brothers, Lloyd (Doreen) and Lorne (Margie).
The family would like to take the opportunity to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer for his years of care.
Visitation for Alta Nicholson will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. in Grace Fellowship Church, Sydney Mines, with Pastor Richard Barnes officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations in Alta’s memory may be made to Heart & Stroke, Diabetic Society, Grace Fellowship Church, or a charity of choice.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
Proverbs 3: 5&6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
