The death occurred at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, of Ida "Aletha" Cornish, O'Leary, age 87, wife of the late Sam Cornish. Born on June 23, 1927, in the Brae, daughter of the late John and Margaret (nee Oatway) MacNevin. Dear mother to Shirley Gorrill, Lake Echo, NS; Billy (Ruth) Dunville, ON; Jean (Herb) Meggison, Mill River East; Mae (Richard) Gorrill, Unionvale; Everett (Theresa), Indian River; Annie (Bill) Hogg, Summerside; John, Summerside; Norman (Carmen), Unionvale; and Tracey (Joseph) Clements, Burton. Loving grandmother to 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Aletha is also survived by sisters-in-law Doris MacNevin, Summerside, and Florence MacNevin, O'Leary. Aletha was predeceased by her parents, husband Sam, son-in-law Herb Gorrill, brothers Ira, Ernest, Hilbert, Hubert, Garfield, Edmund and sister Milita. Resting at the Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O'Leary, with visiting hours Monday, Feb. 23, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. Interment in West Devon United Church Cemetery in the spring. Comrades of the Royal Canadian Legion, O'Leary, Branch #2, will hold a service of remembrance for their late member at the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. In memory of Aletha, memorials to the West Devon United Church or O'Leary Community Health Foundation would be appreciated.
