It is with deep sadness the family of Margaret Phyllis Porter, 91, announces her passing Saturday, February 28, 2015 at her residence Riverside Court Woodstock NB. Margaret was surrounded by members of her family and lovingly attended to by the dedicated staff of Riverside Court retirement residence. Margaret was born in Caerphilly Wales UK February 25, 1924 daughter of the late David and Margaret (Morgan) Jones.
Margaret is survived by one son, Ronald Porter (Karynn) Osoyoos, BC, daughters, Linda Nilsen (Philip), Bradenton, Florida, Debbie Ebbett, Fredericton NB, son in law, Donald Cluff, Woodstock NB, sister, Edith Dyke, Mississauga ON, grandchildren, Ronda Cluff, Angela Young (Blair), Lisa Shaw (Andrew), Bridget Daley (Dennis), Natalie Siders (Troy), Michael Ebbett, Ellen Ebbett, Patrick Ebbett, Hilary Tursic (Raphael), Holly Tursic, seventeen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Joan Jones, Alberta, Olive Jones, Ontario, Vera Jones, NB, brother-in-law Thomas Scott, NB, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Harold Porter (1993), daughter, Lorna Cluff (2014), sisters, Gweneth Smith (Ronald), Betty Scott, brothers, Ivor Jones, Edward Jones, John Jones, Brinley Jones, sisters-in-law, Glenna Speer (John), Louise Kennedy (Reid), brothers-in-law, David R. Dyke and Murray Porter (Lill).
Margaret immigrated to Canada from Wales at the age of five, along with her parents, three older brothers and two younger sisters; another brother was born in Canada. The family made port in Halifax, NS on the ship Athena. The family settled in Debec, NB. During Margaret’s life time she was blessed with many talents, she was a great cook, accomplished seamstress and quilter, artist unit and a Sunday school teacher with the United Church of Canada. She was a member of the Richmond Corner WI and a founding member of the Speerville Pioneer Credit Union.
Visitation will be held at St. James United Church 120 Chapel Street Woodstock on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 11 AM to 12 Noon followed by a celebration of her life at 12 Noon. Interment will be held in Oak Mountain Cemetery at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Carleton County Animal Shelter, Oak Mountain Cemetery fund or to a memorial of the donor’s choice.
