1921 - 2015
It is with sadness yet with great hope that the family of Olin Jones of Woodstock, NB announces his passing. He passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Upper River Valley Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from The Culberson Memorial Chapel in Woodstock, NB with Rev. Leonard Cousins officiating. Olin’s son Phillip sang “Amazing Grace”, and his daughters, Lorna and Jennifer gave tributes to their father. Son-in-law Brian read scripture from Hebrews 11 and offered prayer.
A Men’s Quintet from the Woodstock Baptist Church sang “O That Will Be Glory for Me”, and a number of women from Woodstock Baptist kindly provided a wonderful reception following the service.
Interment will follow at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery in the spring.
Olin was born at Upper Hainesville, York County, New Brunswick on October 19, 1921. He was the son of the late Ernest and Cledia (Hoyt) Jones.
He is survived by his wife Iva Jones (nee Wheeler), daughter Lorna Jones of St. Stephen, NB, son Phillip Jones (Marie) of Quispamsis, NB and their daughter Kayla (Michael) Yorston, daughter Jennifer Simcoe (Brian) of Stouffville, ON and their sons Luke and Tyler, and many nieces and nephews.
Olin was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers.
Olin served his community through a long and excellent career as a denturist in Woodstock, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels after his retirement. He was a longstanding member of the Woodstock Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, mentored many men in his teaching ministry and faithfully prayed for the work of the church. He had a great love of the outdoors, and was skilled at woodworking, crafting many pieces of small furniture for his family and others.
Olin’s family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of 2 North, Upper River Valley Hospital, for their dedication and care during his illness, and to extended family and friends whose wonderful care and support have given us comfort and strength.
