BOURGEOIS, VALERIE "VAL" EDMOND
November 19, 1930 – March 7, 2015
Valerie "Val" Edmond Bourgeois, originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, passed away on March 7.
He leaves behind his wife Marguerite, née Arsenault, also from Moncton as well as their children Phyllis (Serge Ménard) and Gloria (Raoul Liboiron) of des Coteaux, QC, Louise (Jean-Paul Sauvé) of Coteau-du-Lac, QC, Charline (Daniel Amyot) and Denise (Michel Malaborza) of Mercier, QC, and Marc (Rita Chiasson) of Ottawa. He was the son of the late Marc Bourgeois of Scoudouc (Malakoff) and the late Lucie Dupuis of Memramcook, New Brunswick. Youngest of the family, his brothers and sisters predeceased him. He will be remembered by his 12 grandchildren, Alain and Simon, Anne and Martin, Stéphanie and France, Mélanie and Karine, Judith and Marie-Christine, and Zachary and Justine, as well as his two great-grandchildren Olivier and Amy. He was always thankful to his grandchildren for the hours of laughter as they played together throughout the years.
Val worked as a machinist at the Moncton CN shops (LL 2418 previously local 594) where his father also worked. A strong defender of workers, he was secretary treasurer for the New Brunswick Federation of Labour, and finally Grand Lodge Representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). He was also administrative assistant to the vice-president of the Machinists Workers and Canadian vice-president.
Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, Carling Chapel, 2313 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON, K2B 7G3, 613-828-2313 on Friday March 13, 2015 from 7 to 9 pm. Mass in memory will be celebrated at St.- Rémi Church on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 1 pm. Interment to take place in the summer in Moncton. NB.
Donations instead of flowers to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, University of Ottawa Heart Institute, or Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
