Hughes, Carol Ann - It is with saddened hearts we announce her peaceful passing at the age of 76 on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with her family by her side. Born in Brooklyn, Queens County on October 22, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Owen and Naomi (Conrad) Oickle. When Carol first settled in Hantsport she worked at the Nova Scotia Textile in Windsor. The one job Carol loved to do was being an Avon representative and was in the President’s Club for 27 years. Carol was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #9 in Windsor. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to variety shows, doing the weekly Lexicon and along with her husband Len they worked the weekly jam sessions in Mount Denson. Left with fond and loving memories is her husband of 55 years Leonard; son Leonard Jr., Kirkland Lake, ON; daughter Catherine (Murray) Steele, Hantsport; sister Emily (White) Fralic, Milton, Queens County; sisters-in-law Evelyn Oickle, Osgood, ON., Maude Oickle, Hantsport; granddaughters Taralynn, Jessica Steele, Lyla Hughes; grandsons Murray, Jonathan, David Steele; great-grandchildren David, Bentley Steele, Emma Horsman; also extended grandchildren Grace Bird, Anita McLellan; Aunts Eileen Oickle, Kentville, Gloria Conrad, Voglers Cove, Lunenburg County; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Carol was predeceased by son David; brothers Ivan, Murray, David; sister-in-law Charlotte Oickle; brothers-in-law Fred White and Cecil Fralic. As per Carol’s wishes cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Visitation was held Saturday, march 5 from 2-4p.m. in Wolfeville Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.
