It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Donald 'Nick' Nicholson on March 10, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Birch Grove he was the son of the late Daniel and Jane (Smith) Nicholson. Donald was employed with L.H. Chernins Wholesale for 21 years, then with the Cape Breton Development Corp (Bridge & Builders) until his retirement in 1996. Donnie also met many people over the years through his work as a drywaller. Donald enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, playing cards, daily walks and spending time with his family. He was very well known to everyone for his helping hands.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen (Carabin); two sons, Craig (Donna), Sydney and Allan, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Craig, Chrissy (Tommy) and Liam; great-grandchildren, Kaidyn, Karson and Averee; brothers, Murray, Birch Grove, Roy (Beverley) Glace Bay; sisters, Audrey (late David Burke), Jean (late Donald MacInnis), Florence (Freeman) Vokey, Glace Bay, Mora (Vernon) MacDonald, Peggy (Bill) Hummer, Birch Grove, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his brothers, Wesley and Allan; sister, Neila and brother-in-law, Archibald MacRury.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from12-2 p.m. with a service to celebrate his life immediately following at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stoke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
