
Eugene Mooney
It is with great sadness that the family of Eugene Vincent Mooney age 80 of Amherst announce his passing on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Iona, PEI, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Catherine (Doherty) Mooney.
Gene graduated from St. Dunstans/UPEI and also NS Tech. He was employed generally in Marine Projects, mostly in Atlantic Canada with a few outside the country, finishing his career with the completion of the Confederation Bridge project.
After retirement he was fortunate to be part of the Cumberland Paving Project Contractors Team until the company was sold.
Gene enjoyed Celtic music and was grateful for many hours of music enjoyment with the Chaisson Family of PEI.
He was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish, Amherst, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus, as well as other volunteer services.
Gene is survived by his wife the former Nancy Farnell, daughters Marina Mooney (husband Jeff Richardson) of Markham, ON, and daughter Patricia Mooney of Fredericton, NB, son Kelly at home, two grandchildren Nicholas and Mikayla, sisters Mary Conroy of New York, USA and Rose (Timothy) Lynch of Stratford, PEI, three brothers Leo (Annie) and Gerrard (Cindy) both of PEI and Mervin of Boston, USA and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gene was predeceased by two brothers Stan and Joe and one sister Eleanor.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS. (902-667-9906)
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
His remains will be transferred to Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Ave., Stratford, PEI with visiting on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 5 – 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Iona, PEI with Father Gerrard Chaisson officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Michael’s Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations in Eugene’s memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Amherst Food Assistance Network or the charity of your choice.
