It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, cousin and friend, David Victor Jenkins age 72, on Tuesday March 17, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, January 26, 1943, he was the son of the late Rosella (Jenkins) Bungay and stepson of the late Charles Bungay.
David was employed for a number of years with Marine Atlantic and later with Sydney Steel until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed following his favorite hockey team the Montreal Canadians, supporting local sports teams such as the Memorial Marauders and the Glace Bay Miners, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his five sons and his close friends.
David is survived by his sons Robert, North Sydney, Kevin (Juanita), Georges River, David (Elaine), Calgary, Brent (Angela), Edmonton, Allan (Sophie), Guelph, Ont., by his four grandchildren Mitchell, Parker, Lily and Laura-Jayne and by a special cousin Charlie Jenkins.
David was predeceased by his wife Sheila (Taylor) Jenkins; his mother Rosella; stepfather Charles Bungay; and by his grandparents who helped raise him Priscilla and Mark Jenkins.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 4 west at the Northside General Hospital and the Palliative Care, An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney for the excellent care given to their Dad during his illness.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carmen United Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
