Elizabeth 'Libby' (MacNeil) Lloyd

Born In: Florence
Born: January 7th, 1944

Passed in: Sydney Mines
Passed on: March 21st, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elizabeth 'Libby' who passed away on March 21, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Florence on Jan. 7, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Mary Ann (MacMullin) MacNeil.
Libby was a registered nurse and a graduate of the Saint Elizabeth School of Nursing class of 1964. She was a caring person and applied her personality and training at the Northside General hospital, the Halifax Infirmary and Moncton Hospital before returning to serve at the Sydney Mines Veterans' Hospital where personal health issues caused her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by her loving children, Katherine (Shannon), Bedford, Ken (Yanet), Mississauga, and Gregory (Agnes), Mississauga, and her precious grandchildren, Jarod and Ken Jr. Also surviving are sisters, Mary (Harold) Landry, Vaughnie (Jude) Avery, Theresa (Don), Sara (John) Lamond, Audrey (Lawrence) MacDougall. Elizabeth is also survived by sisters-in-law Elva MacNeil, and Cora MacNeil, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
During her professional career as a registered nurse, and in her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, there was no limit to Elizabeth's giving. There was always a bit more to give, even when her reserve tank was empty. Nothing was too big, too much, or too often for Libby to sacrifice and she expected nothing in return.
Besides her Parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Ken Lloyd, brothers, Danny, Peter, Johnny (twin), James Roderick, and infant James.
Having received excellent home care from Theresa Marinelli and Shirley Stamper, Elizabeth was able to remain in her home until 2001 when she became a long-term resident of the Northside Guest Home. Here she continued to receive first-rate care from a highly professional staff and her loving sisters, Mary Landry and Audrey MacDougall. The family is indebted to them for their countless hours of committed support given to Elizabeth over the many years at the Northside Guest Home. Mary's jovial personality would light up Elizabeth's face and those of all residents who came to know and cherish her vibrant demeanour. A heartfelt appreciation also goes to their husbands, Lawrence and Harold, for the many sacrifices made over the years as their wives spent endless hours away from home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff of the Northside Guest Home and the tremendous professionals of the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who made Elizabeth's family comfortable at a most stressful time.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held at The Holy Family Catholic Church, Sydney Mines on Tuesday, March 24 at 11a.m., with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
Donations can be made to the Huntington's Society or a charity of one's choice.
Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home Sydney Mines.
