It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Debison, age 81, of Glace Bay. Katie passd away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, Katie was the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine Crowdis.
Katie will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Donald Neil Debison; daughters, Ann Marie Dewell, Halifax, Cathy MacMullin, Alberta, Danette (Maurice) Larabie, Ontario; sons, Hector (Darlene) Debison, Donnie (Joan) Debison, Henry Debison; sisters, Mary Reid, Sylvia Piercey, Elizabeth Gasko, Patricia MacNeil, Verna (Finley) MacNeil; brothers, Wallace (Myrna) Crowdis.
Also surviving are 18 cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mom met Dad when she was working at Dan Steel's store. Dad was smitten by her beauty. Together they raised their family enjoying many camping adventures and beautiful memories. Though faced with many challenges in life (and there were many) Mom's unwavering faith carried her through it all without hesitation. Katie's laugh was her signature and she lit up the room with her smile. Katie was a member of the CWL of St. Anne's Catholic Church. She loved playing darts, as well as crib and crazy eights ... as long as she was winning! Mom loved life ... she was most happy at Christmas, like a child, there were never enough decorations. She was actively involved beside Dad when he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Katie also worked as a crossing guard for years. Katie worked from home making pies and sweets for Jay's Restaurant.
Besides her parents, Katie was predeceased by her daughters, Concilo Marie Debison, Karen Ann Debison; brothers, Hughie, Eric, Richard, Frankie, Reggie; sisters, Concilo Crowdis and Hattie Miles.
Our humble thanks to Hector and Darlene Debison for their most generous loving care of Mom for the last 20 years. Dar always made sure Mom had her hair and nails done and was well dressed.
There will be a mass celebrated for Katie on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer.
In Katie's memory, please make donations to your local food bank.
