Hoffart, Manfred Linus, age 92 of Gull Lake passed away March 12, 2015 at Gull Lake. The Funeral Mass was held March 17, 2015 at 11;00 A.M. from St Anne's Roman Catholic Church with Father Prince Kursinkal officiating. The organist was Clara Butler. The Interment Service was held at Gull Lake Cemetery. The pallbearers were Jerome Robert, Marcel Robert, Adrian Robert, Jacqueline Robert, Barry Logan and
Bob Frances. Manfred is survived by two sisters, Minw Robert and Dolly Uttley, and numerous nieces and nephews. Manfred was predeceased by three brothers, Jerome, Art and Gerald, one sister Iona, his father John and his mother Albertina. Manfred lived all his life on the family farm near Gull Lake with his parents and brother Art. He moved into Gull Lake and resided in his house there until 2012, then he moved into Gull Lake Special Care Home. He enjoyed living there and formed many friendships with staff and residents. As a child on the farm, he lived in a large two -story house that started as a rancher's shack and Uncle Alfred built on to and the house came with the farm when my dad rented the farm from my uncle. Manfred was the eldest in a family of 4 boys and 2 girls. They lived a mile from "Bench School" and they walked to school together with the neighbourhood kids. The one room school had grades 1 to 8 with about 20 students and was taught by well-qualified teachers. Manfred completed grade 8 when he was 15 or 16, and was then needed to work on the farm. He also worked for another farmer for a couple years and sent money home. Uncle Art stayed at the family farm and put all his money into the farm. Manfred's mom negotiated the purchase of the farm and helped manage it. Once the farm was paid up, Art worked off the family farm. Art and Manfred bought a tractor for Manfred's dad with their own money. Manfred's dad had asthma and could not manage the farm by himself so Art stayed on the farm for awhile, and later went to B.C. Manfred's parents retired in 1967 and Manfred took over the family farm with his brother, Art, until they both retired. Manfred's happiest memories are of playing baseball. He was a pitcher and right fielder. He was also a good curler and won 3 trophies for curling. When he broke his hip he had to stop curling. Warren's Funeral Home, Swift Current was entrusted with the arrangements.
