John “Jack” Stanley Adamson, 93, of Scotsburn, passed away March 26, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Heathbell, he was a son of the late D. William and D. Grace (Campbell) Adamson.
Jack was a farmer, and along with his late father, established a thriving farm and a prize herd of Jersey cattle. Over the years, Dalcraig Jerseys won many prizes at various exhibitions and four times they received the Constructive Breeders award from the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club. Jack was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and served several terms on the Board of Managers, two of them as chairman. His service to his community and beyond included terms and director of Bethel Cemetery, member on the Board of Directors for Scotsburn Co-operative Services, and a member of the Nova Scotia and Canadian Jersey Cattle Clubs. After his retirement, he remained active looking after his gardens and the grounds of his new home. Jack also enjoyed many wonderful trips, including a tour of New Zealand and Australia, sponsored by the Canadian Jersey Cattle Club, and visits with a group of agricultural friends to the Canadian West and Alaska, Continental Europe, Jersey and Guernsey Islands, England, Scotland and Ireland. For a man who was very interested in geography, these tours were most rewarding and the friendships formed were most important to him.
Jack is survived by sisters, Jean (late Robert) MacConnell and Ina Adamson; nieces, Joan (Jim) Fanning and their children, Sarah and Daniel; Grace MacConnell; nephews, Sandy (Janet) MacConnell and their two children, Kristen (Scott) Ross and five children; and Johanna Skidsrud (John Melillo) and daughter; John and Lloyd MacConnell.
Jack’s faith guided his actions throughout life. He was scrupulously honest, a good manager and a generous provider. We will miss his quiet sense of humor.
The family expresses their thanks to Scotsburn Fire Department, First Responders and Paramedics; the medical staff of Aberdeen Hospital for their care, and to Rev. Lara Scholey and our neighbours.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
