It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of David Kenneth Dowling, 56, on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Florence on April 8, 1958, he was the son of the late Leonard and Ruth Dowling.
David was employed with Devco for 20 years until its closing. He then went on to work at North Metals in Sydney Mines. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and especially spending time at the family cottage in Sugar Loaf. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour and quick wit. His greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with his family.
David is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 36 years Debbie (Young); daughters, Nichole (Brian) Halliday of Florence and Jennifer (Brechan) MacAulay of Halifax. Cherished grandchildren Avory, Jocelyn and Emmett; sisters, Dale (John) Pinaud, North Sydney, Brenda (Alex) MacPhee, Florence, Astelle (Clifford) Stubbert, Millville, Debbie (Terry) MacDonald, Yarmouth; brothers, Brian (Frances), Florence, Glen (Deborah), Sydney; mother and father-in-law Bill and Eileen Young; sisters-in-law Leah Ann (John) LeBlanc, Sydney Mines, Dorothy Dolhanty, Sydney; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his aunts, Mae Dowling, Florence and Annette (Cyril Handley) Ontario.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Stephen and brother in-law Billy Young.
The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m., both held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, with Deacon Greg Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society. Reception to follow at St. Stephens Parish Hall Florence.
