On 8 April 2015 at Cawthra Gardens, Mississsauga, Ont. Born 27 April 1921 at Lower Millstream, New Brunswick.
Beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" Macaulay (nee Coppock). Dear father of Peter, Jane (Donald Rodney) of Toronto, ON and Sandra (John Sheridan) of Mississauga, ON. Loving grandfather of Keith, Francine and Tessa Macaulay, Alexandra and Benjamin Rodney, Anne and Mackenzie Sheridan and great-grandfather of Mia and Charlotte Rodney. Horace was predeceased by his parents James and Gertrude (nee Robinson) Macaulay of Kings County, NB. Also survived by his sister, Bernice Giberson, Presque Isle, Maine, USA and his brother Raymond of the Fredericton, NB area.
Pre-deceased by brother Murray.
Horace had a Distinguished Military Service during World war II as a pioneer in radar training and maintenance at Mt Allison University, NB and overseas with the Royal Air Force and 406 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Post war service in the military included many technical assignments with North America Aerospace Defence Command on Air Defence radar systems and with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as the Wing Telecommunications Officer at Zweibrucken, West Germany. He retired as a Major from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1971 and subsequently from the Federal Department of Communications in 1983, when he was presented with the Government of Canada Commendation Medal for Long and Efficient Service. He and Peggy enjoyed retirement years at their hobby farm along the St. Lawrence River and maintained an interest in sailing, canoeing and cross country skiing. In later years he devoted many hours to the art of wood carving and author of books on family history and World War II radar experiences. In 1999, " The International Year of Older Persons ", Horace shared an award with Peggy as outstanding contributors in creative arts. He was a lifetime member of the Outaouais Wood Carvers: a member of the Air Force Telecommunications Association of Canada; the Air Force Association of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Cremation has taken place. On May 2, 2015, service at the National Military Cemetery in the Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa will take place at 10:00am in the Sacred Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
