Jessie (Field) Wood

Jessie (Field) Wood

Jessie Wood was granted her well-deserved angel wings on April 6th, 2015. Her many loving family members were with her to say their goodbyes.
Jessie was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia to Jane (Mannion) and Ernest Field on January 4th, 1935. She was the youngest of ten children (Clarice, Albert, George, Joan, Norah, Ernest (Skippy), Tommy, June, and Ronald. She was the last surviving member of her family. Jessie was a quiet little girl who loved to spend time with her parents, gardening and cooking. She married her first love and soul mate John (Bucky) Wood and they had five children John (Daina), Stephanie (Vern), Natalie (Rob), Alison (Darcy) and Sean (Tracy). She was blessed with many grandchildren; Amber, Josh, Tessa, Caterina, Lindsey, Callahan, Delaney, Emily, Breanna, Braeden, Matthew and Jessie, 7 great-grandchildren and she had a natural outlet for fun times with them.
As her husband was in the Canadian Armed Forces, Jessie traveled and lived in Germany, New Brunswick, Ontario and Nova Scotia. No matter where they lived, Nova Scotia was always called home. Jessie loved to do for others and she had a great work ethic, balanced with fun times. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and continued to have a very positive outlook on life even during her lengthy illness. She was known for her infectious laughter and brilliant smile. Cooking was a talent that she bestowed on all of her five children. A favourite was Sunday dinner of roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and her famous apple pies. Family times meant that Jessie made an elaborate picnic lunch for beach days. Her love of music was most evident while she was cleaning and singing. She enjoyed swimming, darts, walking, skiing, reading, and she had a great love for spending time with family. She and Dad loved nature, hiking and any outdoor activities. They were very loving with each other and had a once in a lifetime relationship. They each doted on the other and set a wonderful example to their children. It was a genuine love that we are sure continues beyond this lifetime. A more loving and kind-hearted wife and mother could not be found. She was easy going, generous to a fault, selfless, and always put people before things. As kids, we remember whenever relatives were traveling through, they would stop in and Mum would prepare a lunch for them anytime of the night or day. Jessie was so easy to love!
A celebration will be held to honour Mum and share our many memories of her life. Goldenrod Hall 2-6 Sunday, April 12th.
Interment will take place later this summer in Westville, NS.
Donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society or the Bethany Care Centre, Airdrie, Alberta.
