IRLAM, GEORGE EWART
Mr. George Ewart Irlam, husband of the late Elizabeth Frances (Forrest) Irlam of King George Hwy, Miramichi passed away Thursday evening at his late residence, at the age of 98. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Born in Halifax NS, raised in Charlottetown from the age of nine and later moved to Miramichi in 1938, he was the son of the late Chief Warrant Officer Thomas George and Sarah Jane (Miller) Irlam. He was a retired businessman and the former owner of Flett Motors (1956 – 1981), long term member of the Scottish Hyland Society, member of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association, Executive director of NB Automobile Dealers Association for many years, member of Miramichi Golf & Country Club, former councilor for the town of Newcastle and an avid fisherman. He also was a member of St. James & St. John United Church.
He is survived by one daughter Zondra Biggs of Miramichi, one son Richard George Irlam of Miramichi, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and his wife he was predeceased by one daughter Lynn (2006), three sisters, Eva, Pauline and Shirley, two brothers Willard and an infant.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Following cremation there will be a funeral service on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at St James & St. John United Church, with Reverend John Fraser officiating. A reception will follow at the home of his son Richard Irlam 3370 King George Hwy, (Lower Newcastle).
