Margaree Forks, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 27, 1942 to parents James and Theresa (Tompkins) Gillis, Margaree Forks.
He spent the early part of his life as Physician Aide in the Armed Forces, after retiring as a Warrant Officer in the 1980’s he worked in the construction industry. John Dan enjoyed going to card plays, was good at telling stories and liked to play jokes on his friends.
He is survived by son Brad (Jennifer) and the light in his eyes, twin grandchildren Chris and Emma. Also survived by siblings, Harold, Jean, Stewart (May), Kay (Werner) Ruthard, Doug (Isabel), Pat (Wayne) Harley, Ken (Carla), Rosemary (Keith) Bowers , Greg (Janet) and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Roberta Louise (MacKay); brother Graham and Gerald (in infancy); sister-in-law Gerry and brother-in-law Peter Casey.
Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, East Margaree from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be Saturday at St Michael’s Church, East Margaree at 11 a.m. with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating, interment to follow at a later date.
