At the Palliative Care Unit, Prince Edward Home, on Friday, January 23, 2009, of Flight Lieutenant (Ret.) Jerry McCarthy of Charlottetown and formerly of Ottawa and Green Meadows, P.E.I., age 72 years. Son of the late Patrick McCarthy and Mary (McQuaid) Malone. He was also predeceased by his brother, Merlin. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Heather), Oklahoma City; Sean, Charlottetown; Kerry (Danie), Gananoque, Ont.; and Patrick (Emily), Ottawa. He is also survived by sisters, Sister Bertha McCarthy CSM, Annette (Tom) Grant, Patricia MacIntyre, Rita (Leonard) MacDonald; brother, Leo (Florence) Malone; and sister-in-law, Verna McCarthy. He is also lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Conor, Rory, Liam and Sean; Kerry; Briannon; and Molly; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry proudly served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1956-1965 and the Canadian Forces from 1967-1983. Visitation in the parlour of St. Theresa of the Little Flower Church, Morell, P.E.I., Tuesday, 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday morning at St. Theresa of the Little Flower Church, 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Centre or the P.E.I. Cancer Society.
