POWERS, Charles Frederick, formerly of Barrington, passed away on Sunday, April 19 at Roseway Manor, Shelburne, of complications due to Alzheimer’s. Charlie was born on October 7, 1937, at Clyde River, NS, and was the son of Fred and Annie Louise Powers. Charlie leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Carol (Roberts), now of Bayside Home, Barrington, his son Brian (Deborah) of Campbell River, BC, and grandchildren Peter, Amanda, and Lance Powers. Charlie was predeceased by his brother Bill, but leaves behind sisters, Leola (Harry) O’Connor, Margaret (Archie) Harris, and brother Victor (Karen) Powers, as well as 11 nieces and nephews. Charlie worked at a variety of occupations over the years, becoming skilled in maintenance work and qualified in refrigeration and air conditioning. In the past he was involved with starting an auto body repair business; employed by the CNR; worked at Wilson’s Shopping Centre, Barrington, on appliance installation and repair; was employed at CFS Baccaro; and employed in maintenance and heating at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre in Shelburne. Sometimes interlaced with these jobs, Charlie provided home heat service for both Esso and Ultramar, and then later worked for himself as C.F. Powers Heating and Air Conditioning. Charlie was often a go-to person for both homeowners and service people when dealing with difficult problems in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning, and kept up with changes in the industry. Charlie and his wife were long-term members of Temple Baptist Church, Barrington Passage. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Riley, and the staff of Roseway Manor for their care over the past two years, and Pastor Cindy Dunnett for her care over the years for both Charlie and his wife. Visitation will be held from 7–9 pm on Thursday, April 23, at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service for Charlie will take place at Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, at 2 pm on Friday, April 24, Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. A reception following the service will be at Temple Baptist Church multi-purpose room. Internment is in River Dale Cemetery, Barrington.
