PORTER, GENEVA ELLA
March 27, 1921 – April 26, 2014
The passing of Geneva (Jardine) Porter of Doaktown, NB, wife of the late Ernald Porter, occurred on April 26, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Renous, NB on March 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha (Curtis) Jardine.
Geneva was a faithful member of the St. Thomas United Church, Life Member of the U.C.W., Past Vice President of the U.C.W., Past Treasurer of St. Thomas Cemetery. She served as Clerk of Session for many years, Choir member, Past member of U.C. of Canada, Maritime Conference, past member of Woolastook Presbytery, the Atlantic Salmon Museum, Historical Society, Treasurer of Miramichi Friendship Club until its closure.
In her early years she taught school and took care of her home and family. She later worked as a sales clerk M.H. Attridge Est., later as a bookkeeper for L.B. Amos Ltd. until her retirement.
She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, reading and her visits to the C.N.B. Nursing Home.
Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by two sisters Janet Stewart, brother-in-law Fred and Shirley Jardine, brother-in-law Russell, two brothers, Benson and Roy, sisters-in-law Audrey Jardine and Rachel Babineau, half-brother Perley Curtis, also daughter-in-law Babs Jardine.
Geneva is survived by her son Leonard (Tom) Jardine of Brandon, Man, three daughters Esther Pond of C.N.B. Nursing Home, husband Merlin of Tay Creek, Janet Burke (Tom) of Fredericton, NB, Gail Stewart (Charles) of Doaktown, NB, grandchildren; Daryl Jardine (Monica) of Vancouver Island, Scott Jardine (Lily) of Brandon, Man, Rodney Jardine (Carrie) of Minnesota, Stephen Pond (Fran) of Doaktown, NB, Kevin Pond (Gail) of Durham Bridge, NB, Heather O’Donnell (Allison) of New Bandon, NB, Shelley Rogers (Lindsay) of Freetown, P.E.I., Tammy Allen (Mark) of Upper Kingsclear, NB, KristaVautour (Craig) of Noonan, NB, Karen McAleer (Robert) of Doaktown, NB, Coralee Stewart (Craig MacDonald) of Lincoln, NB, great-grandchildren; Thomas, Kathleen Jardine of Vancouver Island, Gabriel Jardine of Brandon, Dylan and Bauer Jardine of Minnesota, Bradley Pond of Calgary and Ellis Pond of NFLD, Kyle and Leanne O’Donnell of Fredericton, NB, Stewart, Shanae and Sherra Rogers of P.E.I., Laura McAleer (Jordan Colford) and Jeremy McAleer of Doaktown NB, Madeline and Gabrielle Voutour of Noonan, NB and one great-great-grandchild Hudson, several nieces and nephews.
Geneva enriched the lives of all who knew her and her memory will be cherished forever.
At Geneva’s request, there will be no visitation and no flowers. Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at St Thomas United Church, 367 Main Street, Doaktown, NB, on Friday May 1st, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Paul McGratten officiating. Honorary Pallbearers, U.C.W. members.
For those who wish, a donation may be made to St. Thomas United Church or a memorial of one’s choice.
