It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Michael Andrew Gouthro on Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, Mike was the son of the late Robert and Emma (Russell) Gouthro.
Mike worked at Marine Atlantic in North Sydney as a stevedore and with the B&B department until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in North Sydney.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette 'Beth' (Parsons) Gouthro; by his daughter, Peggy (Donnie Osmond) of Florence; by his sons, Lloyd Gouthro and Joe (Kerry) Gouthro, both of Ft. McMurray; by his precious grandchildren, Kayla, Donald, Courtney, Tyler and Nickolas. Also surviving are his sisters, Theresa (Tommy) Gillis of Ontario, Leona (Kevin) Hennessey, North Sydney, Sr. Marcella Gouthro of Halifax; brother-in-law, Mickey McCormick; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gouthro, Mary Bradbury, Jen Parsons and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Frank; two sisters, Jenny Silver, Hilda McCormick; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Margaret Parsons; brothers-in-law, Richard 'Wish' Parsons, Joseph 'Pook' Parsons, Lloyd Parsons, Roy Bradbury and sister-in-law, Bea Young.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
