It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Gladys Foss, age 98, on April 27, 2015 at the Northside Community Guest Home, with her family by her side.
Born in Neil’s Harbour on Jan. 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Maude (Fricker) Rideout. Gladys lived many years in Neil’s Harbour where she married and started her family. She later moved to North Sydney where she continued to raise and care for her family. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Junior (Priscilla) Foss, Ronald (Christine) Foss and Kevin Foss; her daughters, Louise Sollazzo and Jean (Eric) Warhuus; her sister, Ella Clarke, her many grand, great and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Foss; her daughter, Doris Wood; her son, Johnnie Foss; son-in-law, Jim Sollazzo; sisters, Irene, Mildred and Hattie and brothers, Cecil and Theodore.
Many thanks to the staff of the Highland Manor where she lived for a few years, as well as the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, especially those from Teresa Terrace, where Gladys remained until her passing.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. A celebration of her life will take place 3 p.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
