Shirley Joyce 'De-De' Williston, 87, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late Bob and Elma (Israel) MacGregor.
After graduating from Sydney Academy, Joyce attended Acadia University and graduated in 1947. For a time, she worked for the provincial government in Halifax, before returning to Sydney to join the Joseph Azar group of companies. She was an avid curler and represented Nova Scotia nationally at the executive level.
Joyce is survived by her brothers, Robert (Louise) MacGregor and Ross (Yvonne) MacGregor; as well as nieces, Dianne (Mike) McCormack, Judith (Steve) Crane, Cheryl (Craig) Ferguson and Lori MacGregor and nephews, Robert (Noreen) MacGregor, Barry (Sheila) MacGregor, Ross (Elena) MacGregor, Kenneth (Leona) MacGregor and Scott Myers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Archie in 2008; sister, Wilma Myers in 1997 and brother-in-law, R. V. (Sam) Myers in 2015.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the exceptional staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital floors 4B and 4C and the Palliative Care Unit for the exemplary care they provided to Joyce in her final days.
There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held in the Church of Christ the King, Trinity Avenue, Sydney, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cove Guest Home Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
