It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Dorothy Alberta Hatcher, age 90, on Thursday May 7, 2015 at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Dorothy was born in Burgeo, Nfld. on May 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Blanche (Bowdridge) Billard. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Dorothy was a very special wife, mother sister, aunt and housekeeper and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, her daughters, Thelma (Bill) MacLennan, Dalem Lake, Hilda Hatcher, North Sydney, Sharon (Robert) Anderson, Sydney Mines and his son, Melvin Hatcher, Sydney Mines; her grandchildren, Diane, Lisa, Gail, Tammy, Kim and Christopher and great-grandchildren, Logan, Megan, Ryan, Katie, Brianna, Xavier, Carter, Abigail and Zoe and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hatcher; her sisters, Ivey Bennett, Hazel Oates, Ina Earle, Gwenyth MacDonald and infant brother, Harvey.
The family offers a special thank you to Dr. Peter Poulos and the nursing staff of MacEachern Place at the Northside Community Guest Home for the excellent and special care given to our mother and for making her every day special.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. A burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
