Ruby Stone

Passed on: May 9th, 2015

Ruby Elizabeth Stone (nee: Onraet)
It is with much sadness that the family of Ruby Elizabeth Stone of Admiral, Saskatchewan announces her passing. Ruby passed away peacefully on May 9, 2015 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current surrounded by her family.
Ruby was born on July 1, 1938 to Rudolph (Rod) and Evelyn Onraet in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and she was baptized in the Old Church Rectory. She was the oldest of four siblings; big sister to Victor, Therese, and Elaine. Her elementary days were spent in the one room school in the Grassy Creek School District often walking the 2.5 miles to school with her brother Vic. When the school closed the family moved to just east of the water tower in Shaunavon. Ruby and Therese stayed in the Convent in Shaunavon and attended school in the church basement. Ruby completed her Grade 9 at the Moose Jaw Convent and finished off her education back in Shaunavon. During her late teens she was a telephone operator and then became employed as housekeeper/cook on the Stone Farm. This is where she met her husband Ralph and they married on September 4, 1965. Ralph eagerly accepted Ruby and her four children Alan, Vangie, Eugene and Richard and within a short period their family grew with the addition of Melvin and Corrine. They proceeded to raise their family on the farm that exceeded 100 years of heritage on that homestead. Ruby was a woman of strong faith, always saw the positive in everyone, loved gardening and yardwork and took much pride in that. She will be remembered for the love she put into preparing and hosting many family and social gatherings. Ruby’s most treasured possessions were her faith, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her dogs for which she had the utmost love and pride for each and every one.
She was predeceased by her parents Rod and Evelyn Onraet, her in-laws Ole and Myrtle Stone, husband Ralph Stone, daughter Vangie Steven, son Eugene Onraet, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jack and Peggy McPherson, sister-in-law Kay Onraet, sister Elaine Helbrecht and her husband Horace Helbrecht.
She is survived by her sons Alan (Connie), Richard (Nancy), Melvin, her daughter Corrine (James), her brother Vic Onraet (Mies), her sister Therese Mellor (Doug) as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Ruby’s family would like to thank all care givers who helped her with her end of life journey. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Admiral Catholic Women’s League in care of Holy Family Church, General Delivery, Admiral, SK, S0N 0B0.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 16, 2015 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family R.C. Church in Admiral with Reverend Father John Mock officiating. The Urn Bearer was Vickie Onraet. Interment took place at St. Mary’s R.C. Cemetery in Shaunavon. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of arrangements.
