It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eva Rita Walsh, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on April 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Alexandrine Penny.
Eva was a very outgoing person, who loved having people come to her home. She especially loved all of her caregivers, who showed great care and concern for her. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Eva is survived by her daughter Patricia 'Patsy' (George) Ferneyhough, North Sydney and two sons, Ronnie Walsh (Linda), Florence, N.S. and David Walsh, at home. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Tracy and Ronnie Jr. Walsh and Troy (Heather) Ferneyhough, Sydney Mines; her three great-grandchildren, Adam, Ryan and Matthew Ferneyhough and also a number of nieces and nephews.
Eva was predeceased by her husband James Walsh, two sons Eric and James Walsh and her sister Mary Apestiguy.
Special thanks to her homecare workers, the Victoria Order of Nurses, Dr. Patrick O’Grady and the nursing staff of 2 West at the Northside General Hospital.
Visitation for Eva will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
