Joan Winnifred Muir (Cooper) Halliday
June 21, 1921 – May 13, 2015
Passed away in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Halifax, Daughter of Jenny (Houseman) and Percival Cooper.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years John Westley Halliday and Infant Daughter and Infant Grandson.
Survived by daughters Pat (Fred) Wellings, Murrays Siding, Truro, NS, Jennifer Halliday, Westville and son James (Bonnie) Halliday, Dartmouth, NS. Grandchildren Stephen (Yolaine) Wellings, Christine (Pierre) Moore, Loarraine (Julio) Munoz, Jeff (Laura) Halliday, Ben Halliday. Tracie (John) Renick. Great Grandchildren Judson, Anwaar (“Honey Bee”), Arianna, Kelsey, Wesley, Abagail, Lillian, Alayna and Madalyn. “And Special family” Jeanne and Carolyn and Janice. Also survived by brothers: Gerald, Murray, Donald, Malcolm and Stewart (Barbara) Cooper.
Graduated from Normal College, Truro in 1940, taught in Lorne and Halifax before being married. Later she moved to Pictou County to teach in New Larig then moved back to Halifax to teach at Bloomfield School where she met Westley again and later got married. After marriage and children she returned to teaching in Lovat, Glengarry and Trenton, retiring in the mid seventies.
She was a member of New Glasgow Horticultural Society, The Scot’s Wives bowling team (and participated until the age of 93), helped at St. Bee’s woman’s auxiliary. She was an adherent at St. Bee’s Anglican Church in Westville and was also a member of the church choir. She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzling and most of all her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Mrs. Halliday is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Wednesday from St. Bees Anglican Church, Westville with Rev. Marilyn Haugen-Strand officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
