Peacefully at the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Saturday, May 16, 2015, of Eldon Oliver Matthews, of Northport, P.E.I., age 95 years. Beloved husband of the late Blanche Myrtle (nee Leard) Matthews. Born at Northport on Jan. 9, 1920, he was the son of the late Silis H. and Lydia (nee Wells) Matthews. Loving father to Owen and his wife Joyce of Northport, and grandfather to David (Stacy) Matthews, of Vancouver.He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Darcy (Brandy) Foley, of Northport, Karla Profit (Bart), of Northport, Chris (Shelley) Foley, of Charlottetown. Step-great-grandfather to Jenna, Julia, Nadia, Ryley, Laruen, and Paige. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Wanda Matthews, of Alberton, and by a brother-in-law, Warren Leard, of Cascumpec. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews and acquantances. He was predeceased by his wife Blanche, sons, Clayton and daughter Gwen, and Kenneth Charles in infancy, and by siblings, Myrle (late Pearl) Matthews, Olive (late Eldon) Barbour, Daisey (late Arthur) Wallace, Mae (late Lorne) Crockett, Basil Matthews and Orville Matthews. He was also predeceased by a sister-in-law, Bernice Leard. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton, from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Rev. Lynn McKinnon officiating. Interment to take place in Hillcrest Cemetery Alberton. Visiting hours Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorials to the Western Hospital Equipment Fund or to Hillcrest Cemetery Fund would be gratefully appreciated.
