BROWN
Reverend Canon Harold G.
Reverend Canon Harold G. Brown, 79 years old, of Joe Batt's Arm NL, passed away after a brief battle with cancer at the Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, May 29, 2015. Harold was born December 1935 to George and Priscilla Brown (both deceased) and is survived by his wife, Gloria Pauline Tucker (Coombs), and predeceased by his first wife Doris Mae Mills (deceased), sons: Robert (Heather) Brown and Robert Clarence (deceased), daughters: Cynthia (Christopher) Squires, Jennifer (Brett) MacDougall, and Joanne (deceased), 5 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Jessica, Elle, & Bode, step-children: Wynette (Joe - deceased) Smallwood and Stephen (Gail) Tucker, 3 step-grandchildren: Adrienne, Lauren and Alexander. Brothers: Fred - deceased (Ann) Brown, Arthur - deceased (Mary) Brown, John (Patricia) Brown, Ralph (Viola) Brown and Eric (Susan) Brown, and sisters: Marie (Jim - deceased) North, Betty (Reg - deceased) Keeping, Shirley (Rev'd David) Hewitt and Verna (Ivan) Jacobs. Harold completed high school in Joe Batt's Arm and received his Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University and a Bachelor of Divinity from Queen's College. As a young man, he began his parish ministry in the Parish of Belleoram, Fortune Bay. It was there he met and married Doris Mae (Mills). Harold would openly admit that Doris with her vibrant personality and her flare for fun contributed greatly to his success in parish ministry. Together they ministered for 32 years in many parishes in Newfoundland and 5 years in Nova Scotia. Harold's style of ministry, centered on the importance of home visitation and personal contact, brought affluence and success to all of the parishes to which he answered the call. Socially, he enjoyed reading, keeping up-to-date with current events, news, and politics, playing a good old card game with friends, watching hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leaf's. Those who knew him best would know that house chores and cooking were never on his to-do-list; for the needs of his parish and his people took precedence. In short, Harold was very happy with his calling in this life and will be supremely happy with Him in the next. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Carbonear General Hospital for their care and support and to Moore's Funeral Home in Bay Roberts for making all of the arrangements. Visitations will be from 7:00 until 9:00 pm on Tuesday June 2 and from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, June 3. Funeral service will be at St. Luke's Anglican Church in Port de Grave on June 4, 2015, 10:30 am with Father Paul Rideout officiating. Harold will be laid to rest at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road in St. John's NL. Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's Anglican Church in Port de Grave.
