BURNS, WILLIAM "BILL"
The death of Mr. William “Bill” Francis Burns of Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home and formerly of Newcastle, NB, husband of Rose Marie (Grattan) Burns, occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the age of 80. Born in Sillikers, NB, he was the son of the late Walter and Catherine (Hyland) Burns.
Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Newcastle, and was retired for many years from Homestead and Lounsbury’s Furniture. In his earlier years, Bill worked in several logging operations and Heath Steele Mines. Bill enjoyed; working and spending time at the cottage in Oak Point, fishing, golfing, and was also an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan. His life was devoted to his family, as well as his faith.
Besides his wife, Rose Marie, Bill is survived by; one daughter, Judy Saunders (Tim) of Miramichi, NB; one son, Gordon (Carla Gregan) of Miramichi, NB; three sisters, Helene McIntyre and Monica Hovey of Miramichi, NB, and Anna Curtis of Moncton, NB; two brothers, Leo (Susan) of Fredericton, NB, and Donald (Joan) of Sillikers, NB; one sister in law, Shirley Burns of Miramichi, NB; and three grandchildren, Spencer and Tessa Burns of Fredericton, NB, and Stephanie Saunders of New Glasgow, NS and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by; one sister, Mabel Dodds; and one brother, Lawrence Burns.
The family received visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Newcastle, on Thursday at 11 AM with Father Dan Melanson officiating. Music was by organist Mary Butler accompanied by the church choir. Soloist Susan Butler: Solos: “Ave Maria” and “Danny Boy.” Readers were: Tessa Burns (granddaughter) and Carla Gregan- Burns (daughter-in-law) who also read the General Intersessions. Active Pallbearers were: Paul Burns, Michael Curtis, Azade Hache, Ralph Reagan, Robbie Tozer and Bill Vye. Burial followed in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery.
In Bill’s memory, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Restoration Fund, Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home or to a memorial of one’s choice.
