With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of David Chalmers Walsh, age 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney on March 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Hazel Walsh and Stephen MacDonald. He worked in construction as a welder throughout his life. He loved the outdoors and music and was an avid camper and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda (Clarke) Walsh and daughters, Theresa Walsh, Pat Walsh and Judy Gallant; his sons, David Walsh and Keith Walsh (Alva), also his stepchildren, Cyril Connolly, Denise Connolly (Darrell), Joe Connolly (Irene), Theresa (Glen) Johnston; his sisters, Joan Scalcroft (Al), Donna MacLean (Tony) and Bev (Larry) Carriere; his half-sisters, Frances McTaggart, Agnes Walsh, Mary Boyd and Peggy McNight, many nieces and nephews.
David had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one very special grandson, whom he cherished, Dalton Connolly, his little buckaroo. The sun shone on him, he was his best buddy.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rhoda Pardy; daughters, Veronica Gouhl and Marlene Walsh; his sons, Thomas Walsh and Aaron Walsh in infancy; his brother, Eric Walsh and half-brother, Harvey MacDonald.
Visitation for David will be held 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
