MELOCHE (Illsley), Aleda Erdine - It is with sadness that the family of Aleda Meloche announces her passing, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Grand View Manor, Berwick. Aleda was born in Falmouth on June 4, 1914. She lived in Falmouth until age 14, when she moved with her family to Berwick. Aleda attended Berwick School and then graduated from Acadia University with a diploma in Secretarial Science. She worked with her father in the office of the family business, Fairview Creamery until she moved to Halifax, where she worked in the office of the Carleton Hotel for a number of years. Aleda married her husband, James L. Meloche in 1954 and they moved to Hamilton, Ontario. Later they purchased a store in Hamilton and then sold the Hamilton store and moved to Carlisle, Ontario where she and Jim operated a General Store until retirement. Following Jim’s death in 1991, Aleda returned to Berwick. She became very involved with rug hooking; taking and teaching many courses. In 2011, Aleda was very proud that “The Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia” conferred “The Honorary Member Award” on her in special recognition of significant contributions to the Craft of Rug Hooking. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church where she served as a member of the MacPherson Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, Aleda was predeceased her parents, Earl and Frances (Church) Illsley; her brother, Ronald Illsley; her stepmother, Gladys (Rockwell) Illsley; sister-in-law, Vesta Illsley. She is survived by her brother, Clyde Illsley, Berwick; her sister-in-law, Doris Illsley, Kentville; several nieces and nephews in both Nova Scotia and Ontario. There was no visitation. Funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick, with Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating. A reception followed in the church annex. Interment was in the Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Berwick Baptist Church.
