PICTOU – It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a truly amazing husband, father, brother, uncle and a friend to many.
Daniel Gerard Rankin passed away on June 26, 2015 after he lost his battle with ALS. He was born September 1, 1956 in Pictou to the late Ronald Duncan Rankin, Sr. & Mary Elizabeth (MacIntyre) Rankin.
Daniel is survived by his loving and caring wife, Joyce; adoring daughter, Danielle and sons, Brandan & Jordan; siblings residing in Alberta, sisters, Rhonda (Bruno), Theresa (Greg), Sandra (Gary), JoAnne (Tom) & Lori Anne (Robert); brothers, John, Donald, Jerome (Maria), Ronald Jr. (Annie), Darren (Tara); in-laws, Janice, James (Eleanor), Jason, all of Ontario; sister-in-law, Joanne (Robert), Pictou. He is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews, 16 grand nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and extended family and friends. Daniel was predeceased by many aunts and uncles.
He was employed by Northumberland Ferries Limited for 28 years and was a Parishioner of the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-9PM in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service with mass will take place on Friday at 11AM in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Tom MacNeil and Father Peter MacDonald officiating. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Pictou County V.O.N., the ALS Society, Dr. Grant, Dr. Farrell, Dr. Burrill, Dr. Hack, and the nurses and staff at the Aberdeen Hospital. We would also like to acknowledge the love and support of the Northumberland Ferries, Royal Canadian Legion, Pictou Academy Graduates of 2015, and the residents of Pictou County. Your support was greatly appreciated. If you wish, donations may be made to The ALS Society of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick or to a charity of your choice.
