It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother Joan Ann MacLeod on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at An Cala Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Moe & Alice Saccary. Reunited with the love of her life, Laughlin 'Lockie'.
Ma enjoyed sewing, knitting, making her famous quilts and baking. When one came to visit there was always a baked treat to take with you. She enjoyed spending time with her best friends Dollena and Peggy. She was once employed at Seaview Manor Home for Special Care.
Survived by her children, Leo (Wendy), Gerard (Kelli), Ann Marie (Bill Murchison) with whom she resided and Margaret (Kyle); sisters, Dollena (Kevin Mackie), Annette and Mary Catherine; brothers, Cecil (Rita), Michael, Stanley and Kevin (Lorraine). Also, grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Matthew Boutilier), Jessica, BJ (Bernard), Joseph and step-grandchildren, Wendy, Shauna, April, Billy, Chris, Ryan, Jordan, Corey, Krista, Cheryl, and Chelsie; sisters-in-law, Peggy Gouthro and JoAnne MacLeod; brother-in-law, John MacDonald; her companion, Lucky and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Marion Saccary and Carmela MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Roddie, Patty and Frank.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Cape Breton Regional Hospital ER, Unit 4B, ICU and An Cala for the care and compassion shown to our mother and family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15 at 11a.m. in Holy Cross Church. The Rev Norman MacPhee will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care.
