Ann Denny

Denny, Ann Isabel, 88 of Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away July 17, 2015 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Antigonish Landing, she was a daughter of the late William Bernard Young and the late Mary (Sylliboy) Young Johnson.
Ann was raised at Whycocomagh First Nation working at her dad’s sawmill, and at the age of 14, served as the Whycocomagh First Nation Post Mistress.
In her early adult years, she joined a group of over 100 women who were hired to work in Ontario Factories during wartime. After returning from Ontario, she and her late husband Gregory settled in Pictou Landing First Nation where they raised their family. Also during her adult years, she worked for Medical Services as a Medical Driver for over 25 years retiring after that, enjoying her Arts and Crafts in her later years.
She was a granddaughter of the great Grand Chief Gabriel Sylliboy.
She is survived by her sons, Edgar (Charmaine), Pictou Landing First Nation; Edmund, Halifax; daughters Mary Elizabeth (Rod), Martha Augustine, Natalie Denny (Kyle) all of Pictou Landing First Nation; special great-grandchildren Tyson and Laela, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, special son Clayton Bernard, Antigonish; brother Robert Young, Sydney; sisters Mary Ellen Googoo (Francis), Membertou; Margaret Hodgson (Allan), Wheatley, Ontario; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Gregory Denny, infant daughter Yvonne, sons Bernie and Brian, a grandson Timmy, brothers Fred, Charlie, Walter, Richard ”Dick,” Donald Gabriel Young, sisters Mary Ellen Young, Jesse Young-Morris, son-in-law Perry Augustine, daughter-in-law Mary Theresa Denny, sister-in-law Martha Denny and goddaughter Janet Lafford.
Her remains will rest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation after 4 p.m. Monday from where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Father Gary Macpherson presiding. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
