ALAN FRANK KELLY SORENSEN
June 11, 1962 - June 30, 2015
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alan at the age of 53.
Alan was born in Calgary and moved to Halfmoon Bay in his early teens. He attended Pender Harbour Secondary and went on to work in charter fishing as well as the construction and logging industries.
Alan was the father of three children whom he loved more than anything else. He was a voracious reader, a lover of nature and a skillful fisherman. Alan had a great respect for aboriginal culture and art, collecting and gifting many beautiful pieces over the years. He had a talent for storytelling, had many friends and enjoyed a good debate. He could liven up any gathering and enjoyed family dinners and smorgasbord where he would talk and eat for hours.
Alan's life was unconventional in many ways but he found acceptance and friendships in the Garden Bay community which he called home. He loved boats, owned many, and spent his last years living aboard the "Sloot" his beautiful Monk McQueen.
Mourning Alan are parents Svend and Helen, children Natasha (Amyn), Brenden and Vanessa, sisters Eva and Sonja, brother Ken (Teresa), nephews Evan and Neil, niece Lucy, as well as many aunts, uncles cousins and friends.
A gathering of remembrance will be held on Saturday, August 15 from 2pm-4pm at 1228 Sunnyside Road in Gibsons.
Come away O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
W.B. Yeats
