Passed on: September 2nd, 2015

Marguerite Maillet, 87, passed away Sept. 2, 2015 at Foyer Père Fiset, Cheticamp.
Born in 1928, Marguerite was the daughter of a fisherman/farmer for the first 11 years of her life, daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Poirier) Desveaux.
She lived at "LeButtereau" until her family was expropriated when the Cape Breton Highlands National Park was established. Having been raised on a farm, she was always a hard worker. Before she married she worked for six years as a nursing aid at the "Hôpital Sacré Coeur" of Cheticamp. After she married, she was devoted to her family and continued to work on the farm until she secured seasonal employment in the cleaning services at Cape Breton Highlands National Park in 1972, until she retired in 1990.
She loved her husband, Placide, dearly and all their trips together to Montreal and to the Annapolis Valley to visit family. She adored her children and grandchildren as well as her family gatherings at the homestead in Petit Étang. She foremost enjoyed recalling her life experiences with her family.
She had a passion for playing cards and jigsaw and numbering puzzles. She was very faithful and believed in her daily prayers. While she resided at the Foyer Père Fiset, she enjoyed the entertainment provided by local talents, especially "Les Joyeux Troubadours".
She is survived by four sons, René Maillet (Ann), Kingston, Ont., Claudie Maillet (Heather), Cheticamp, Guy Maillet (Ruth), Paris, Gilles Maillet (Linda), Sydney; one daughter, Marielle Bourgeois (Eric), Cheticamp; one brother, Yvon Desveaux (Jocelyn), Montreal; three sisters, Marie Cecile Poirier and Rhea Poirier, both of Cheticamp; Eva Chiasson (Richard), Montreal; nine grandchildren, Nathan Maillet, Shawn Maillet, Bradley Bourgeois, Craig Bourgeois, Jonathan Maillet, Melissa Maillet, Walker Maillet, Julie Weismantel and Carrie Cowan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Placide Maillet; five brothers, Freddie Desveaux, Pierre Desveaux, John Joseph Desveaux, Amédée Desveaux, Henri Desveaux and one sister, Eva Desveaux.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Foyer Père Fiset for all their care during the course of her stay at the manor.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 7th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Interment in the parish cemetery.
