It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our mother, Karen Kennedy, 68, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at her home in Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay and a longtime resident of the Sterling, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (MacIntyre) Cote.
Karen was a very compassionate woman; always willing to lend a hand and help. She was a strong believer in the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her loving children, her son, Gerald Michael Kennedy (Wendy), Porters Lake, daughter, Kerri Sawlor (Chris), Coxheath, the light of her life, her grandchildren, Van and Charley Sawlor, Dante and Dimitri Kennedy. Also surviving are siblings, Gerald, Eugene, Wayne, all of Ontario, Joan Cote, Vancouver, and her best friend since childhood, Elaine Ashe.
Karen was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Patrick ‘Pat’ Kennedy.
Visitation is Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass is Saturday, 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery. A reception will take place in the church hall.
Her children would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the VON, The Homemakers and the Renal Dialysis Unit, you were like family to our mother.
