NEIL GILLIS
Remembering Neil Gillis
Feb.15, 1942- Oct.3, 1990
I write this on behalf of and for our children; Juanita (Glen) Musgrave, Denise (Gerry, [deceased]) Sparrow, Jason (Kathleen May) Gillis, and Heather (Kevin) Holloran, I write this for family, friends and for the many students Neil taught at MacDonald High School in Dominion over his twenty-eight year teaching career at that school. Many times our children meet up with former students who make them feel proud that he was their Dad. There were tough times, sad times and many happy times over the span of the past 25 years, and in all those times he was there with us. Our children grew up to be “good people and good to other people”, Neil’s only request of them. They all married “good” people and he would be very proud and accepting of their choices. They have given us grandchildren; Maggie and Emily Musgrave and Jessica, Logan and Annie Gillis, who in turn have been taught the same values he possessed. They know him even though they never met him. As a family we have moved on, but Neil’s memory has moved along with us. We have been blessed with an extended family that has blended well with ours. Roddie Gillis and his two children Cathy (Adam) Kennedy and Glen (Kelly) Gillis and their families have added so much to our lives. Neil was known for this strong faith, kindness and compassion toward others, especially the downtrodden. He treated everyone equal and his philosophy of life was that he was no better than anyone else, but there was no one else any better than him. In his memory we ask that you do an act of kindness for someone, or make a donation to Loaves & Fishes or your local food bank.
Forever in our memory.
