With heavy, saddened hearts we announce the passing of our Mom, Murdena (Andrews) MacDonald. She passed peacefully at the Northside Community Guest Home where she resided for the past four years.
Mom was born Sept. 1, 1917 and passed Sept. 8, 2015. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her parents were the late Joshua and Christy Andrews, North River, Victoria County.
She was predeceased by her six siblings, Murray, Alex, Annie, Joe, Bill and Ralph as well as our Dad, Maurice MacDonald.
Left to mourn with loving memories are two daughters, Karen (Walter) MacKenzie and Christene (Freeman) Reynolds and her 'Little Sweetheart' Ariana Katikos. She will be fondly remembered by her two grandchildren, Murnell MacKenzie and Christopher (Julie) MacKenzie as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Grayson and Alyssa Yablon and Brayden, C.J., Elijah, Elliott and Olivia MacKenzie. Also left to mourn are nieces, nephews as well as her sisters-in-law, Ethel MacDonald, Harriet Andrews and Isabel Andrews who held a special place in Mom’s heart.
Mom was a teacher for over 15 years in Florence, North River, Big Harbour and Baddeck. She was a faithful adherent of Glen Valley United Church, South Haven.
We, her family, want to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from the staffs of Munro Place and Teresa Terrace. Many thanks to Dr. Kirkpatrick and Dr. Genge for the professional care and compassion since many years.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2 p.m. at Carman United Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Burial will be in Harbour View Cemetery, South Haven.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home.
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.
