Ronald Byers
BYERS, RONALD
Ronald Francis Byers, 85, husband of Barbara (Garrett) Byers, of Berry Mills died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 13, 2015 after a brief illness and celebrated his first church service in heaven. Born in Montreal on September 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Carl and Marie (Paulin) Byers.
Ron came to Moncton in 1959 as an Interior Designer for Cassidy's Ltd designing restaurants, hotels and stores. He also had his own business repairing, upholstering, refinishing furniture and making store fixtures. Ron was able to fix anything, except computers stumped him. If he didn't have a part, he would make it! He showed lots of artistic skills in everything he worked on. In 1970 he bought a farm in Berry Mills and continued his career with teaching. He taught Life Skills in Community College as well as Dorchester & Springhill penitentiaries. He was pleased and happy to be involved with Christian Council for Reconciliation (a ministry to prisoners). Ron loved animals and he created a hobby farm by raising chickens, turkeys, a couple of pigs and cows but mostly interested in horses. Saturday mornings were always clean up days and the children and their friends would help before they could go riding. Those of us who knew Ron, will smile as we will always remember his love of a "good deal" and how these deals tended to build up around his home. He also liked going to yard and garage sales, flea markets and auctions. Ron was proud to be a member of Steeves Mountain Baptist Church, now known as New Hope Community Church, where he enjoyed the loving congregation, praising the Lord and singing hymns about Jesus.
In addition to his devoted wife of 65 years, he is survived by his son Gary (Peggy McPherson) of Lutes Mountain; daughter Ann Martin-McGee (Ralph) and sister Beverly (Gerald Spurrell); as well as four grandchildren, Geoffrey (Jade) and Kara-Lea Martin and Patrick (Shani Gregoire) and Jessica Cormier (Brad); two great-grandchildren Elliott Martin and Adalynn Cormier; sister-in-law Francis; five nieces Diane, Louise, Carol, Linda and Laura; three nephews Gordon, Steven and David.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sons Randy and Ross; two brothers Ken and Howard (Joyce).
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) visiting will be Tuesday, September 15 from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will be held at New Hope Community Church (formerly Steeves Mountain Baptist Church) Wednesday, September 16 at 11 am with Pastor Gordon Horsman officiating. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
If desired, donations in Ron's memory may be made to "The Dare to Dream Campaign" for the New Hope Community Church or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. www.keirsteads.ca
