It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Charlie MacKinnon on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Murray and Bessie Boutilier.
Charlie was employed as a stevedore with CN Marine in North Sydney for many years, retiring early due to illness.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
Charlie is survived by his three sons, Tony (Charlene Doyle), P.E.I., Maurice MacKinnon, Chuck (Jeannie Keigan), both of North Sydney and his daughter, Germaine (Joe) Cox, North Sydney; by his grandchildren, Chris (April), Michelle, J.C., Kimmy, Nathan and his special angel, Rylee; by his great-grandchildren, Ella, Airanna, Dylan, Madison, Bella, Damon, Braden, Nevaeh and Maliyah. Also surviving are his brother, Earl; sisters, Myrtle and Maisie, as well his many in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Osmond) MacKinnon; brothers, Johnnie, Mike, Jimmy, Gordon, Nicholas, Allie and a sister, Jean.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer for his care over the years and the wonderful staff at Harbour View Hospital, for the love and compassion shown to Charlie during his stay there.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or any charity.
