We regret to announce that Margaret Elaine ‘Ekklit’ Simon, 50 of Eskasoni, passed away at the Victoria Regional Hospital in Baddeck surrounded by her family on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015.
Born in Eskasoni, she was the daughter of the late Charles Pictou and Emily Gould. Ekklit was raised by her grandmother Mary Jane Gould.
She was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Ekklit was a happy camper who loved to play cards, spend time with her grandchildren, she loved the outdoors and playing facebook games. Ekklit, Simon and her children loved the time they spend in their cottage at Mala.
She is survived by her husband Stephen Simon; nine children, Si, Seki, Stephen Jr., Alvin, Alwyn ‘A.J.’, Dave, Mare, Emilee and Stephanie; 19 grandchildren; brothers, Al (Cindy) Gould, Kenny (Priscilla) Gould, Russell Gould, Francis (Mary Ellen) Gould, Eskasoni; sisters, Freda Bernard, Norma (Vernon) Doucette, Marina (Richard) Denny, Rita Gould, Eskasoni, Andrea Phillips, Angela (Kenny) Googoo, Waycobah, Diana Pictou, Rose Pictou, Millbrook; godparents, Michael ‘Misel’ Johnson and Rose ‘Rubby’ Gould; godchild Heavenly Gould; best friend Kathleen Sylliboy and by many aunts uncles, nieces and nephews.
Ekklit was predeceased by brothers, Richard Phillips and Barry Pictou, sisters, Heather and Corrina Pictou and her godchild Kris Sylliboy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Simon will be held at her home 164 74th St., Eskasoni after 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
