With broken hearts our family announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend at home with her loving daughter by her side on Sept. 19, 2015, at the age of 68.
Born July 28, 1947 in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Edward and Mary Catherine (O'Neill) McKay.
Mom was the true example of a mother; she dedicated the last 10 years of her life to her sick son and never once complained. Her greatest love in her life was her grandchildren, whom she loved more than life itself.
Throughout her illness, she always put her family first, never showing how she truly felt, her beautiful sense of humour was never lost.
She will be sadly missed by son Glenn, at home; daughter Corrie Lee (Darren MacDonald); grandchildren, Travis, Jenna MacDonald and Jessica McNeil; brother Daniel O'Neill; sisters, Mary (Max) MacDonald, Pamela (Herbie) Fahey, sister of her heart, Carolyn MacBean; childhood and dearest friend, Linda Aucoin; lifelong friends, Anna and her mother Audrey McPhee, Cathy Lewis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by the love of her life and best friend, her husband Stanley Gerard, brothers, Lauchlin and Raymond.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m., Thursday at St. Anne's Parish, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
To our family, friends, and neighbours, we are truly blessed to have you in our lives. A heartfelt thank you to George Luker for your love and kindness, also to Lynn Chauder Young, Janet Sweeney and Corrie Yelland for all your love and support. Thank you to Chris Blois (VON) for brightening Mom's days.
Donations in memory of our mother can be made to the Kellen Surette Scholarship Fund, 39 Hillside Ave., Glace Bay, B1A 4B7.
Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
