RUBY E. FARR
April 12, 1925 ~ September 16, 2015
Born in New Westminster, Ruby spent her early years in Burnaby and New Westminster. She worked in a plywood mill for a short while, then joined the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force). During that time, she got to experience a real Canadian winter in Ontario.
After marrying Bill Gibb in 1946, she moved to Grantham’s Landing in 1955 where she raised George, Belinda, Sam (Karren) and Richard, and anyone else who needed an aunty or mothering.
Ruby worked for BC Ferries until she retired. It was there she met the love of her life, Laurence Farr. With Larry, she took up golf and travelled far and wide. They especially enjoyed going on cruises. Ruby was known for her joy of life, friends and family. Her smile and laugh were infectious. She insisted on being independent for 90 years and was a little spitfire. Ruby spent her last 10 years in Roberts Creek gardening and helping out her large extended family and having a holiday at home.
She was particularly proud of all her 12 grandchildren, her 19 great-grandchildren and her extended family of nieces and nephews, of which she had many.
Grandchildren: Ritchie, Rochelle, Keri, Gabriel, Liam, Phillip (Gibb), Nathan, Serena (Strand), Lexanne, Chris, Greg (Kirkman), Kiana (Chamberland).
Thank you to the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during Ruby’s last days. Special thanks to Dr. Bruce Robinson and Dr. Karen Scott, nurses Terry and Preciosa and others whom we may have forgotten.
Ruby had a big and generous heart. She is now smiling, laughing and dancing the night away. A memorial service will be held at the SC Golf & Country Club (Roberts Creek) on Saturday, October 3 at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Happy Cat Haven in Gibsons. Ruby’s own elderly cats are happily settled there under the expert care of Violet Winegarden, a friend of Ruby’s from her early years.
