Thomas Kirby

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas F. Kirby of Lord’s Cove at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre in St. Lawrence, on Thursday, September 17th, at the age of 67.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 47 years, Anne (Hodge) Kirby; two sons, Sandy (Marsha) and Dale (Leigh); three precious grandchildren: Alena, Liam and Kieran. Six sisters: Bride (Don) Locke, Elizabeth Kirby, Dorothy Phelan, Patricia (Art) Mauger, Mary (Bob) Isaacs, Regina (Carl) Simms. Four brothers: Richard (Bertha), Raymond (Jackie), Frank (Stella), Clem (Luanne); One brother-in-Law, John (Vi) Hodge; Five sisters-in-Law: Lucy Edwards, Winnifred Pace, Veronica Tarrant, Priscilla (Otto) Tarrant, Cecilia (Stu) Sheppard and a very good friend, Junior (Thomas) Haley; plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Mary Ann (Lambe) Kirby; brothers-in-Law: Maurice and Prosper Hodge, Robert Field, Bill Phelan, Rick Kirby, Joseph Edwards, Leo Pace and Patrick Tarrant.

Tom was a very special person who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was devoted to his farm work with his animals, especially his sheep, and he took great pride in his organic vegetable gardens. Every fall at harvest time he willingly shared the fruits of his labors with his relatives, friends and those in need. An avid reader, he had a keen interest in genealogy and local history and loved to gather with family and friends for a chat or a sing-a-long. He lived a simple life style and was very content with his lot.

The Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Lord’s Cove, on Monday, September 21st, at 3:00 p.m. In Thomas’ memory donations may be made to St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery Fund in Lord’s Cove. No flowers by request of the family.
