Dad passed away on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.
Born on Sept. 29, 1923, George celebrated his 92 birthday last month. He was the son of the late Donald John and Sadie (Liscombe) Morrison.
Dad was a commercial salesman, working for Eastern Bakeries which took him from the local Sydney area and as far as Down North on his bread truck. He moved on to travel from Sydney to New Glasgow for Morses Tea, EB Eddy products and Target Foods. After retiring, dad and mom opened a convenience store next to the house in South Bar. Dad enjoyed hunting, bowling, skating, walking along South Bar highway and drives on any back road he could find.
Dad leaves behind his four daughters, Judith Hartigan, Marilyn Quinn (Colin Campbell), Janice Morrison and Joyce Morrison, all of South Bar; four grandchildren, Tammy Quinn (Andrew Lefebvre), Jennifer Quinn (Shaun MacLean), Holly Knott (Jason), Andrew Hartigan (Mary Wilcox) and four great-grandchildren, Kenzie Pearson, Davis Pearson, Kayleigh Hartigan and Kira Hartigan. Dad also leaves behind two sisters, Esther Jessome and Lois Matheson; sisters-in-law, Pearl (Merritt) Richardson and Tina Johnston; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Johnston) and brother, Gerald.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of George Andrew Morrison will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family burial will be held in Harbourview Cemetery, South Haven at a later date
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
We can never thank the entire staff of 4A enough. From the nurses to the cleaning staff who took time to chat with dad. A very special thank you to his nurses, Dawn and Kim, the both of you brightened dads days over the past four months. We can't thank all of you enough.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
